Petit ELJ Wooloowin is steeped in deep history as our beautiful Centre was once the Kedron Brook Bakery which was established in 1888. Over the years the building has been used for various purposes, but we are proud to now call this our home.
Our children’s interests make the foundation for our learning program, as we believe that all children’s voices should be heard and valued. Our learning environments are designed to encourage the whole child while being mindful that we are supporting the individual child too. We believe in making our families feel like part of our family, which encourages and builds strong and respectful relationships that are meaningful and true. We do this by collaborating with all our families to ensure the best outcome for all children.
At Petit ELJ Wooloowin, we support our team by offering professional development training to encourage their growth and development. We love to celebrate not only our children strengths within our Centre but our Educators too.

There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Wooloowin, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s kindergarten experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and kindergarten with all the families we meet. Petit ELJ Wooloowin Kindergarten Teacher Profile
Lisa McGuireEarly Childhood Teacher
Hi, my name is Lisa McGuire and I have 15 years’ experience working in this wonderful profession, beginning in New Zealand where I completed my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood). I have spent the past six years working here in Brisbane where I have been able to learn new skills and develop my teaching and leadership skills.
I regard myself as an educator who maintains a nurturing, caring and fun approach to teaching.
I have a strong understanding of the importance of play-based learning where children can explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways. Within this approach, I have gained extensive experience and understanding on how to guide and encourage children as they learn. I am able to work with and alongside children who have a wide range of interests, passions and skills levels.
As an early childhood teacher, I recognise that relationships and a strong sense of belonging are fundamental to a quality and enriched early childhood education. This can be achieved through meaningful and sincere connections and communication between children and their families and by providing our children with a curriculum that is accessible and inclusive that offers meaning and purpose and prepares them for a more formal learning journey at school.
Arin TanEarly Childhood Teacher
Hi, I am Arin Tan. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood). My passion lies in developing children’s social and emotional competence as a child’s early years sets the foundation for lifelong success as an adult. The first years of a child’s life is a crucial time for brain development. My role as an Early Childhood Teacher is to create a predictable, nurturing and responsive environment where children are able to recognise and regulate their feelings; form and maintain friendships; problem solve; and become competent in tackling challenges.
Our Kindergarten program provides children with opportunities to experiment, engage in trial-and-error, collaborate, think critically, and take risks. Literacy, numeracy, STEM, cultural awareness and a focus on wellbeing are also incorporated through our play-based learning experiences and group times. Our daily program is guided by children’s interests, ideas and voices and we welcome parents’ suggestions and feedback too. Through our Kindergarten program, we hope that your child’s transition to school will be smooth and successful.

I wanted to take this opportunity to express how extremely impressed I am with the centre and the joy I get dropping my child there. They constantly go above and beyond my expectations and my experience has been amazing. My little boy was such a handful who was experiencing such a huge problem with childcare but since moving to Petit I can see a huge change. The teachers Molly and Louisa are caring and comforting and just so approachable and seem to be so engaged in what they do with the children. Lastly Jo and Yara wowza these woman are bloody legends! They have made my journey as a mother so much easier – they always makes me feel welcome and my child feel validated and loved! Well done to Petit for having a centre that is so outstanding.

What does an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) do every day? At Petit Early Learning Journey, our valued ECTs do more than play and teach young children. While they do vital work with children, often in their final year before schooling, ECTs also play an integral leadership role. At Petit ELJ, our ECTs are allocated non […]
Intentional teaching is a term you may have heard regarding your child’s early childhood educational program. Sometimes, people confuse it with teaching by repetition, but that’s a misconception. The EYLF describes it as Educators being purposeful and thoughtful in their decisions and actions. When an Educator uses intentional teaching practices, they’re taking an active role […]
Baby bath toys, those things that go squeak in the tub, may not be such a good idea for children. Blame it all on mould. Is this the end for squeezing bath toys? What are we to do if rubber ducky isn’t “the one” after all. Young toddlers and preschoolers love to play in the […]
