At Petit ELJ Clifton Hill, our core values such as integrity, humility and enthusiasm can be seen in the day-to-day operations of our centre. Our vibrant, inclusive and welcoming learning environments promote exploration, play and learning possibilities which allow our children to be active learners, curious about their environment and the people around them.
We believe in drawing inspiration and guidance from our children’s voices, interests, and contributions to inform our curriculum planning. Our program is designed to inspire creativity and imagination. At Petit ELJ Clifton Hill, we believe that parents are the children’s most influential teachers, and by partnering with our families, we encourage children’s learning to be a continuing journey from home to the centre.
Britt FinlayCentre Director
Hello, my name is Britt Finlay, and I am the Centre Director for Petit ELJ Clifton Hill.
I have worked in Early Childhood Education for over 20 years, both in long day care and occasional care settings. Working in this sector is a privilege as being part of a child’s learning, and development is a wondrous thing.
It’s important to me that children have a sense of belonging, that they feel empowered and confident in all that they do while in a care and education settings. By creating environments that nurture and holistically support children, we achieve great outcomes for each child in our care. We achieve more significant outcomes when we work in partnership with families. I believe it’s important that families and educators work together to assist in children’s learning as well as be a support to each other. Educating and caring for children is a journey that we are all on together.
By working alongside and with the educators of Petit ELJ, I hope to inspire and further support them in their professional growth and development. As the children around us learn, so do we. As educators, we are the greatest resource a child can access, and we need to be there for support, guidance and further challenge when needed.
I am passionate about providing high-quality early childhood education because what is learnt now by each child, is a stepping stone to their future. How they learn and what they learn will matter to who they become.
My priority always is getting to know families and children. I look forward to meeting you all very soon.

There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Clifton Hill, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s kindergarten experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and kindergarten with all the families we meet. We are excited to share with you the learning of your child, and we look forward to the shared experiences of play and fun that we have in each session.

When toddlers practise self-help skills, it boosts their confidence. Children are naturally inclined to want to do things for themselves. Encouraging your child’s self-care, like feeding themselves, reduces their stress and promotes their self-esteem. Teaching your child to be self-sufficient is a gradual process. Children begin to learn new self-care skills as babies, and it […]
