Petit ELJ Burdell consists of two amazing Centres located right next to each other, creating one big family.
Our mission at Burdell is to provide children with an environment where they can build lifelong friendships and a love of learning. Our Centres take pride in being able to offer a culturally inclusive environment which strengthens our connectedness to our families and the wider community.
Our team of educators welcome all families into our centres and build a collaborative relationship that enhances each child’s learning journey.
At Petit ELJ Burdell, we provide a well-resourced environment for our educators to be able to facilitate and extend each child’s interests prompting their exploration of life.
We believe in letting children take the lead in their learning and live by the motto of “if a child can’t learn the way we teach, then maybe we should teach the way they learn”.
Katie GudgeCentre Director
Hi, I’m Katie, and I am the Centre Director at our Petit ELJ Centres in Burdell 1 & 2. I have been working in the Childcare industry since 1991. I have now been with Petit ELJ since 2014 when we opened our first centre in Townsville.
I have an Advanced Diploma of Children’s services, and I am also a Qualified Justice of the Peace. My mother owned and operated a childcare centre from when I was very young. I have had the pleasure to work with families from all walks of life, and that has made me love working in childcare even more.
The most rewarding aspect of my role is seeing each child learn new things, smile, and be happy to see me — knowing that I am doing a job I love and that parents have so much trust to leave the most important thing in their lives in my care.
I am fortunate to be able to work with a team of highly skilled educators, that are warm, friendly and most importantly share the same beliefs that I do. Children come first at Petit ELJ. Both in everyday activities and decisions made around the centre.

Burdell Kindergarten Program
Enrol your child in a Kindergarten Program today to encourage a smooth transition and school readiness!
There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Burdell, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s kindergarten experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and kindergarten with all the families we meet. We are excited to share with you the learning of your child, and we look forward to the shared experiences of play and fun that we have in each session.
Petit ELJ Burdell Kindergarten Teacher Profiles
Courtney HallEarly Childhood Teacher Burdell 2
Hi, I am Courtney Hall and I am the Early Childhood Teacher at Petit ELJ Burdell 2.
I have a Bachelor of Education and have been working with Petit ELJ since
2018. I am so grateful to have such an amazing job where I am able to build
strong relationships with children and their families. I believe that every
child is capable, resourceful and a constructor of their own knowledge. I
ensure that I provide children with intentional experiences that build upon
their knowledge and strengths. As each child learns differently, I ensure
that the program is designed in a way to foster all children’s strengths
and capabilities. I provide children with a learning environment that is a
place of potential and possibility. This is achieved by offering children
the freedom to explore all aspects of their environment. The most rewarding
aspect of my job is seeing the children smile and watching them enjoy their
time spent at kindy.

We’ve absolutely loved Petit. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Hudson loved his teachers and interacting with the other kids and he’s learnt so much while attending. We’re very sad to be leaving.

Grandparents Day is an opportunity to show our love and appreciation for all the things our grandparents do for their grandchildren and families. It’s a special day for connecting with family and a reminder of the role senior citizens can play in raising children. In Australia, most states observe Grandparents Day on the last Sunday […]
A shy baby can be tricky to understand. You may not know what shyness is or how to help a child overcome shyness. However, shyness is a typical trait in children 5 years and under. It is a natural reaction. It allows children to be cautious and feel safe. Young children may be shy when meeting […]
