Tenita WilliamsCentre Director
Hi I’m Tenita Willaims, Centre Director at Petit ELJ Barton. I have been in the Early Childhood for 8 years now and have a Diploma in Children’s services. I studied Early Childhood when I was in school and very quickly fell in love with the sector.
It is incredible to see the milestones and accomplishments that children make every day. I love the unpredictability of working with children and knowing each day will be different. Through this, I have developed greatly as an educator, and I am continually striving to evolve my skills. The best part of my day is seeing all the children’s smiles and knowing that I am making a difference in their lives. I enjoy collaborating with families, supporting them and creating a warm and welcoming environment to foster all children’s education.
I enjoy collaborating and leading our fantastic team here at Petit ELJ Barton. Getting to work with other educators that share the same passion for the Early Childhood sector is so rewarding. Every child is unique and capable of learning and succeeding in their way, as long as we give them the tools.

Barton Pre-school Program
Enrol your child in a Pre-school Program today to encourage a smooth transition and school readiness!
There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Barton, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s pre-school experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and pre-school with all the families we meet. We are excited to share with you the learning of your child, and we look forward to the shared experiences of play and fun that we have in each session.
Petit ELJ Barton Pre-school Teacher Profile
Saifagaloa SioEarly Childhood Teacher
Hi, Bonjoh, Kia ora, and Talofa lava. I am a mother of four beautiful, energetic young children. I believe teaching young children with passion and love creates an excellent foundation for their learning journey as they grow. I like learning to be unique and enjoyable for young children because teaching draws on the capacity to engage in meaningful interactions with parents /whanau and tamariki.
I value the children by their special uniqueness, individuality, character, strengths, their interest and learning. To honour and respect the multiculturalism we have here at our Centre, we learn songs in different languages and welcome the children using their language/ mother-tongue when arriving in the morning.
It is important to me that we make our families feel welcome and that they feel they always have a place in our learning environment. Our pre-school program is to prepare our young explorers for lifelong learning and a successful transition into kindergarten or primary school.

The centre is absolutely beautiful with plenty to keep my daughter happy and learning throughout the day. The educators, Emma, Helena and Yolanda are wonderful with the children, always engaging with them as if they were a part of one big family. The Centre Director, Jess, is not only an awesome leader but has always been loving, caring and closely involved with the parents and children. I believe the team at Barton Petit work really well together. My daughter took less than a couple days to settle as it didn’t take her long to feel safe and cared for. It would have been great if the centre had had capacity for babies under 15 months.

We felt from the moment we stepped into the centre that it was a child-focused, well-maintained space for kids to explore, stretch their legs, roam and play. We LOVE the staff at Petit – they are friendly, welcoming, professional and reassuring. We feel it’s really important for kids to see adults being responsible, polite, calm and helpful to one another (just as we ask children to be), and the staff seem to have a really good groove in the way they communicate, manage workload and help each other. We love the systems at Petit – the sign-in and out technology, the responsiveness to emails, prompt notifications of any health issues, the updates on Storypark, the menu being available on the board, two weeks at half fees, and your constant reviewing and communicating of systems and procedures to make sure the kids are safe at all times, everything is working as well as it can, and everyone’s on the same page. Having Jess on board is the icing on the cake – she is just wonderful – friendly, experienced and capable, but most of all, we can see that she really cares about real food, real variety and real nutrition – not what’s easiest. We couldn’t be happier.

When we talk about resilience training in child care, the focus is often on strengthening children’s wellbeing. The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) frequently raises wellbeing as it is pivotal to experiencing belonging, being and becoming. Being resilient improves wellbeing. Beyond Blue describes resilience as “Doing well during or after an adverse event, or a […]
Learning through play occurs naturally through everyday experiences. Children learn by exploring, using their imagination and by making decisions often through trial and error. Play changes as children grow, and many different forms of play support children’s agency. Families can promote play by encouraging and participating in children’s play. Playing together is one of the […]
Chase the gloom away with these 20 things to do on rainy days. Our rainy day activities work best when we build them around our children’s interests and invite them to play. Set up multiple play spaces and let them choose which ones they want to play. Below, we’ve gathered indoor and outdoor rainy day […]
Improving child development is best achieved in early education and care environments when there are strong family partnerships. Documented research and experience widely supports the positive effect on a child’s development. A 2010 report for the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, examined a large body of research that shows families have […]
