Petit ELJ Wooloowin is steeped in deep history as our beautiful Centre was once the Kedron Brook Bakery which was established in 1888. Over the years the building has been used for various purposes, but we are proud to now call this our home.
Our children’s interests make the foundation for our learning program, as we believe that all children’s voices should be heard and valued. Our learning environments are designed to encourage the whole child while being mindful that we are supporting the individual child too. We believe in making our families feel like part of our family, which encourages and builds strong and respectful relationships that are meaningful and true. We do this by collaborating with all our families to ensure the best outcome for all children.
At Petit ELJ Wooloowin, we support our team by offering professional development training to encourage their growth and development. We love to celebrate not only our children strengths within our Centre but our Educators too.
Angie McDonaldCentre Director
Hi, I’m Angie McDonald, Centre Director at Petit ELJ Wooloowin. I have been educating children for over 20 years, enjoying many different roles and responsibilities along the way. I have a Diploma in Children’s Services and am about to begin my Advance Diploma.
I am passionate about making a positive difference in children’s lives and watching them develop, grow and succeed, into the amazing little human beings while offering the children a secure, stimulating environment that has enabled them to enjoy their learning experiences.
I strive to create an environment where my staff feel supported, encouraged and involved. Educators should work together as a team, respecting one another’s views and values. I believe in teamwork and continuous support from within the team.
The joy I receive watching a child develop and grow is a beautiful thing. The most rewarding part of my role is the unconditional love you receive from the children and knowing you are laying the foundations for the children’s educational future.
I aim to create an environment here within the centre that allows the children to grow and develop while encouraging their love for learning. I encourage the families and children to engage in our programs by getting to know them both as a family group and as individuals. This allows me to support their needs while encouraging the family and giving them information on their child’s educational needs and how we are catering to them.
My favourite quote from Ashley Montagu guides me every day. “Love is the supreme form of communication. In the hierarchy of needs, love stands as the supreme developing agent of the humanity of the person. As such, the teaching of love should be the central core of all early childhood curriculum with all other subjects growing naturally out of such teaching.”

There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Wooloowin, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s kindergarten experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and kindergarten with all the families we meet. We are excited to share with you the learning of your child, and we look forward to the shared experiences of play and fun that we have in each session.
Petit ELJ Wooloowin Kindergarten Teacher Profile
Amanda Hart Early Childhood Teacher
I have been in the childcare industry for twenty years in a range of roles. I have a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood and have a deep passion and enthusiasm for Early Childhood Education.
Through my new role as the ECT, I hope to carry on and build upon the beautiful work that Ange and the team have built here and to continue to help provide quality care for your children. My philosophy works so well alongside Petit’s philosophy and is the anchor for all we do.
I am guided by the principles of Queensland Kindergarten Guideline and the wisdom and inspiration of Emmi Pikler, Loris Malaguzzi, Kimberley Crisp and Teacher Tom. But just as important, I use my own heart to guide my interactions with the children and our families.
I am committed to consciously growing respectful and loving relationships for all. The relationships I build with children is the most important part of my work. When your child feels known, appreciated and secure in their relationships, they are what we call ’emotionally satisfied’. That means that children are ready to engage in quality play, which results in quality learning.

I wanted to take this opportunity to express how extremely impressed I am with the centre and the joy I get dropping my child there. They constantly go above and beyond my expectations and my experience has been amazing. My little boy was such a handful who was experiencing such a huge problem with childcare but since moving to Petit I can see a huge change. The teachers Molly and Louisa are caring and comforting and just so approachable and seem to be so engaged in what they do with the children. Lastly Jo and Yara wowza these woman are bloody legends! They have made my journey as a mother so much easier – they always makes me feel welcome and my child feel validated and loved! Well done to Petit for having a centre that is so outstanding.

Reflective practice in child care helps Educators to approach ongoing challenges, situations and ways of doing things. By engaging in critical reflection, Educators are better informed when it comes to making decisions. Naomi McLeod on “The Reflexive Educator” in Empowering Early Childhood Educators (Routledge, 2019) believes Educators who engage in reflection can open up new […]
Every child has the right to quality early childhood education. When we value these rights, it compels us to provide learning in an environment based on high-quality pedagogy. Reflecting on our teaching strategies in early childhood is crucial to improving pedagogy. When we question the purpose of education and explore early childhood contemporary approaches, we […]
How do you help your child bounce back from disappointments and life’s challenges? The relationships children build at child care are at the centre of all learning. Research shows that Educator-child relationships matter as do those with other children. “Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships” is one of the five core principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Educators need to prioritise their relationships with children, as reflected […]
