Astrid CancriniCentre Director
Hi, I’m Astrid Cancrini, Centre Director of Petit ELJ Port Douglas.
After working for several years as a Councillor, I realised how important it is for children to learn and grow in a healthy and stimulating environment where they can learn how to be well-rounded little people. During those years, I came to realise how important it is for children to grow and develop in loving, caring and stimulating environment where all aspects of the individual are considered and supported. When connection, trust and security are embedded, children flourish in magical ways.
Making a difference in the life of families and their children is essential to me; it is an honour watching the children grow and develop into amazing human beings.
I look forward to continuing to inspire our team to reach exceeding levels of care. To continue to create amazing curriculums that encourage our children every day.
Petit ELJ Port Douglas is a support for families and children alike in our community. It is a heartwarming feeling to belong to the Petit ELJ Family. I am so blessed to have the pleasure to work for and with all of you. Your feedback and enthusiasm in everything we do here at Petit ELJ inspire me to do more!!

Port Douglas Kindergarten Program
Enrol your child in a Kindergarten Program today to encourage a smooth transition and school readiness!
There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Port Douglas, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s kindergarten experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and kindergarten with all the families we meet. We are excited to share with you the learning of your child, and we look forward to the shared experiences of play and fun that we have in each session.
Petit ELJ Port Douglas Kindergarten Teacher Profile
Genny FrazerEarly Childhood Teacher
My name is Genny Frazer, and I am an Early Childhood Teacher at Petit Early Learning Journey Port Douglas. I have enjoyed 25 years working in early education in varying positions as Educational Leader, Nominated Supervisor, Director, Play-session Coordinator and Forest School Leader. I absolutely love teaching kindergarten, aiming to instil a love of learning, curiosity and wonder, developing all children’s desire to become life-long learners.
I am passionate about challenging the way people think and approach educating children. I am driven by the ever-evolving sense of wonder, awe, and discovery of children, facilitating learning and igniting moments of critical thinking within the minds of our children as they inquire, imagine, create, discover, problem solve and reflect upon moments of their learning.
Building respectful relationships and partnering with families supports responsive engagement that builds upon children’s culture, strengths, interest and knowledge. I advocate for a family-centred approach to build trust and a sense of belonging creating respectful relationships with families. This collaborative approach helps me to understand the child and family culture, values and goals promoting inclusion and promoting a tolerance and acceptance of difference, creating a deeper sense of belonging for all children and families.
I am a firm believer in “the environment as the third teacher” meaning that our learning environment is constructed and driven by the children where educators become co-constructors of learning and children’s journeys are scaffolded as their interests continue to deepen.
