Shanyn PellingCentre Director
Hi, My name is Shanyn and I am the Centre Director at Petit ELJ Murwillumbah.
I believe that strong bonds and relationships are what gives children the confidence to explore and learn while feeling emotionally supported by the adults around them. It is paramount that these relationships with the children and the families are built on trust and we create these safe places for children to thrive.
I believe in having stimulating environments that invite the children to explore their surroundings and grow in their abilities. This leads them to ask questions and be curious which forms a huge part of their learning journey. We as educators need to give them the support they crave but also encourage them to take risks and learn things independently as well, teaching them skills that they will take with them through their lives.
I encourage family participation and welcome engagement and collaboration in the program with our open-door policy. We have experienced many magical moments within our Centre, and I can’t wait to share this journey with you and your family.

There is a strong focus on children’s social and emotional development to ensure that each child has the skills to become active and confident learners as they move onto school.
Here at Petit ELJ Murwillumbah, we run a play-based program that stems from the children’s interests, strengths and needs.
We have a keen interest in the importance of families in the children’s pre-school experience, and we work to nurture the link between home and pre-school with all the families we meet. We are excited to share with you the learning of your child, and we look forward to the shared experiences of play and fun that we have in each session.
Petit ELJ Murwillumbah Pre-school Teacher Profile
Lily Hamer Early Childhood Teacher
I have been working as an Early Childhood Teacher at Petit ELJ in Murwillumbah since January 2020. I am working towards my Bachelor of Early Childhood and look forward to completing my studies later in the year.
I continually reflect on my practice and program, which is supported by my innate desire to learn, develop and grow. I know my beliefs and philosophy will adapt and change as I do, the children I come in contact with and the world we live in does. However fundamental values form the basis of my philosophy which entails providing safe, supportive and nurturing spaces for children. The foundation of genuine connection and relationships are significant to me as I get to know the children, families and how I can support them in their development. As a result, children are provided with excellent opportunities for positive and healthy development while they are in my care.
The Pre-school program has two main elements to it: Indoor and Outdoor. The program is based upon child observations and what their interests are during the day. It is designed around spontaneous moments that are then extended upon in the learning. I also do fortnightly reflections to improve my practice as well as, including children’s reflections to ensure their voice and their input guides the learning.

When we talk about resilience training in child care, the focus is often on strengthening children’s wellbeing. The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) frequently raises wellbeing as it is pivotal to experiencing belonging, being and becoming. Being resilient improves wellbeing. Learning through play occurs naturally through everyday experiences. Children learn by exploring, using their imagination and by making decisions often through trial and error. Play changes as children grow, and many different forms of play support children’s agency. Families can promote play by encouraging and participating in children’s play. Playing together is one of the […]
